There has been a great deal of controversy over the minimum wage in the United States. Some argue that raising it is vital to our recovery, while others say that the real route to prosperity lies in lowering or even eliminating it. I am here to say that both are wrong. Our current woes have nothing to do with wages, per se. The latter are symptomatic of the deeper problem but are not, by themselves, key.
